Book Review – F-15C Eagle Units in Combat

F-15C Eagle Units in Combat (Combat Aircraft 53)
Steve Davies
Osprey Publishing

What it’s about:

A combat history of the F-15C in USAF and Royal Saudi Air Force service, with an emphasis on detailed descriptions of individual engagements.

What I liked about the book:

  • Plenty of detail, based on interviews with the pilots who participated in the engagements.
  • Photographs never seen before that are directly related to the text.
  • The color illustrations of aircraft that are the signature of Osprey.
  • Coverage of some topics that have not seen press before (USAF response to the KAL007 shoot down, Royal Saudi Air Force air combat with the F-15C.

What could have been done better:

  • The books really needs a map of Iraq and Saudi Arabia, with key locations marked on it.
  • There is a lot of fighter-pilot speak, which could have been better explained for those of us who unfortunately have not been qualified in the F-15. Your humble blogger suspects that he is more knowledgeable about aviation than the vast majority of people. If he is puzzle by terms, then the majority of readers of this book will be puzzle also.

Excellent coverage of the combat history one of the most dominant air superiority fighters in history and its pilots.

4 stars out of a possible 5.
